Planned Economy Discussion Activity: The Spicy Scandal In Giant Jar
1. How were the resources wasted in the economy in USSR?
The resources in this case would be the mustard and the jar bottles. The gigantic jar of mustard was too much for anyone to eat, and since people couldn't finish the mustard and it got spoiled. And must be thrown away. The other resources is the labor The excuse of the factory which said to cut the paid they reduce by firing almost every worker and left with 333 workers.
2. What is the objective of producing goods and services for firms in a) a market economy b) a planned economy?
The objective in a market economy is to make profit and satisfy the consumers' needs but a planned economy in contrast with the market economy its the government who decides what good or services will be produce and for whom it is produce for.
3. In a a market economy why would mustard companies be unlikely to make mustard in a 3 liter jars for consumers?
In a market economy it is unlikely that people will buy a 3 liter jar of mustard due to the choices it had in variation of sizes and brands. By deciding to make 3 liter jars mustard will cause the companies to lose all sort of profits.
4. Apart from weight, what other instructions could the government economic planners in the USSR situation have given to the mustard makers for them to produce a useful product for consumers?
Apart from changing the size of the container to an absurdly large jar, other instructions could include adding a perseverance into the mustard to make it last longer. Also, to make sure that the mustard won't go to waste becasue the taste is too spicy or for other reasons to make an additional flavor to it.
5. What problem does the article show with how planned economic systems work in terms of production?
Regarding how the article shows the problem of planned economic system the production is certainly very limited to a lot of restriction and the absurd instructions given which causes a lot of problems in the future if not plan carefully.

Response to Mr. Matt's business
1. What is the main aim of a business (like Mr. Matt’s) in producing goods and services in a Free Market Economy?
2. How did Mr. Matt in this type of economy decide what to produce (why did Mr. Matt decide to start making socks instead of slippers)?
3. In a Free Market System, how did Mr. Matt (and any other kind of business or firm for that matter) decide how to produce his slippers or socks?
4. Who were the socks produced for; that is, what market (or group) were the socks and slippers specifically targeted for?
5. In deciding to produce neon socks Mr. Matt chose the cheapest method, which meant that some workers were laid off. What are the possible outcomes for those workers who were laid off as well as those workers who were allowed to continue working for Mr. Matt?
1. The main aim of a business to to gain the maximize the profits.
2. In this type of business the economic decides the product and in this case his main consumer are the RIS students. looking at the students needs and wants enable Mr.Matt to produced the wanted product. The reason why he has to make a new product is also to satisfy the want of the RIS students. Since after the big selling of slipper, the sell rate declined.
3.In a Free Market System, Mr.Matt in this case probably went for the consumer wants by observation, because RIS student often like something that's new fashion and in trend. The Neon color which are sure to be the attraction for the new trend and fashionista. While Mr.Matt also look at the appropriate of the product to make sure that the group of aimed consumer will be able to use.
4. The socks were produce for the RIS students who previously taken interest in the neon slipper. Because the socks still retains its concept of neon for those students who like neon colors.
5. For those workers who were laid off lies many possibilities they definitely have to find a new job that's for sure, but its possible that they can find a better job that suits them which was why they could possibly were laid off for. They may find another job of the same position in other factories or they can change their specialization as well. For the leftover they would have to stick with the same job but because some workers were laid off their works load would increase as well. Due to the increase in work load there may be a possibility of getting raise or they may not.

Consider the following questions (as a guide) as you reflect on the
Specialization activity we did today. You may address each question
individually or overall in a short paragraph. You do not have to address every question, they are there to guide as you contrast use of an assembly line vs one person doing everything to produce a good.
1. In your opinion, who [group or individual] was most successful in producing the boxes? The groups or individual workers? Consider how you (or your group, if you were in one) might have improved your method for constructing the boxes either as a group or individual.
2. What was the best way to organize your group? If you worked individually, how did you organize yourself to maximize the time and efficiency for making each box?
3. Was your group (or working alone) enjoyable to work in? Why or why not? How might have the working experience have been improved in terms of job satisfaction (if possible)? If you worked alone, how did you feel about that experience? Did you enjoy the process, or would you have preferred to work with a group (in an assembly line)?
Overall, after the making boxes exercise experience, production wise being in an assembly line was better than being an individual worker. Being in an assembly is all about being a specialist, although the job is very specific. It is very dependent on the other specialist of the same assembly line to do their best for the product to have the satisfying quality. On the other hand, if working alone although it is very time consuming the product are always satisfactory. Because when one work individually the product are made by only one person and that work would have the same standard in all the products and have the same quality creating a standard. Regarding the organization, just like the name said they're specialist, they're assigned only to one task. This would greatly increase the time efficiency and increase the production rate, according to the exercise today in class if everyone were to work diligently. This meant that if ones slacks off the production line will be delay. Which is different from working individually who can just keep going according to his own pace at his own regulation. So personally I think that the assembly is better in overall, the qualities the quantity and the involvement in community, but preferably would like to work individually where it is more comfortable feeling and satisfactory in each product with the same standard of quality.

Job's early life and surrounding
Job's later successes was mainly contributed by his past, although Job was an adopt child he was brought up very well in a very warm family. Because his biological mom left him he is more independent and thus has the ability to think more than those who are well protected and because his father was very poor and wasn't very well educated. But because his father was an engineer Job learn to get involve with electronic and gain interest in it. Maybe because of the early age experience like he was thinking that he want full control over something and Job create Apple, the technologies give him full controls over what he's created. And not just because of his dad, the house Job, Paul and Clara moved in was also what inspired Job to create Apple in the same concept as the house which inspired him. The house which inspired Job has the concept of simplicity, modern and cheap.

Qualified to be a "good" money?
Firstly we have the mountains, well mountains are landmarks they’re land which meant they do not fit into the good characteristic of money because they cannot be move, and the acceptability is rather unacceptable. This already took out 2 of the good characteristics money should have so mountain are concluded as “bad” money.
Second is cheese, looking at the characteristics down the list the acceptability may be well acceptable, and the portability which enable to be move is rather quite easy too if overlooking the fact that if its too hot it’ll melt then yes. The ability to divide into small pieces and values is good too, whether slicing it into small slices or ripping it into small balls. Just one problem with the cheese is that it doesn’t have a good scarcity because cheese are rotten milk which hardens so anybody can make and duplicate it meaning there’s no value in the using cheese as money. This concludes cheese as “bad” money.
Now the cigarettes, some people may or may not know that the cigarettes has already been used as money such as in the prison which are illustrated in some movies. The criteria which makes it a good money is how its very portable, retains its value in every state unless totally ripped, have very good acceptability as well as the scarcity because cigarettes comes with brand and other chemical stuff its hard to duplicate and so this is why it makes a “good” money. Just the downside of it is that it can’t be divide up as an individual of cigarette but the fact that one pack has many cigarettes make up for it.
One last material to consider is gold, the issue here is that gold has already been used as money in the past by the Chinese which is depict in many historical Chinese movies, but they now that’s they stopped using it let’s see why that currency isn’t a good material. The acceptability for gold I’m sure is accept by everyone, it value for modern day which the price are very high just for one small bar of gold. The portability is good too depending on the size which the gold is melted into even the scarcity is good because gold are natural resources they are limited. The divisibility of gold is poor which in which case we need too use only a small amount of gold it cannot be broken up that easily. And another thing to take note of is that the value of gold changes every now and then making it an inaccurate amount of money to use and thus make gold unqualified to be a good money.

I am Hancock and a super freshy, super sophomore and super senior
I am Hancock and I'm enrolled in RIS. In my life nothing ever went the way I wanted. aside from the hero duties which always backfired at me I still have school and school life isn't so easy. By doing hero duties i have to sacrifice my time, my happiness. The opportunity cost such as when I'm off smacking criminals and messing them up, if it was in the afternoon I would be skipping out on classes. Losing my study time, falling behind in studies resulting in lower grade and bad attendance record. Can result negatively further to the point where I will probably will have to repeat grades many times which means more cost on studying. If it was in the night then I might be out on a dinner with my family or my girlfriend, if an incident were to come up and I have to take off emergency I would be ditching on important matter like the family meeting and date. The trust in them would be lost. So keeping the duties of a superhero come with a very high price of time and money. Although, I don't age and I've lived my life for decades I still have to attend to school to keep up with all the new knowledge that's been found. Even though I have choices to choose either being a hero or just an ordinary guy but if I wasn't there criminals would be all over the place and crisis would befall the whole country. If that happens Thailand would collapse and so that's why I'm going to continue being a hero. But If I had chose to be an ordinary person I could be out partying, studying in colleges, enjoying my life of infinite youth, the love which I can't experience because of my job.

Anti-Japan protests erupt in China amid island dispute
By the CNN Wire Staff
August 20, 2012 -- Updated 0626 GMT (1426 HKT)
http://edition.cnn.com/2012/08/19/world/asia/japan-china-island-dispute/index.html
The fight for the island which is part of an uninhabited chain in the East China Sea claimed by both the Chinese and the Japanese. This has a lot to do with the economy in S.E. Asia region as whomever has the ownership of the islands would allow for exclusive oil, mineral, and fishing rights in surrounding waters. This would mean more resources and more business. This could result in another major conflict between these two but the benefits that comes along are undeniable it could possibly turn the economy of any country to the peak.
My Favorite food
My favorite food is sushi, be it salmon, tuna, whale or otoro along with other Japanese foods.
